History of Naples

Naples, Florida got its name when people described the bay as “surpassing the bay in Naples, Italy.”  Not surprising that the name would catch on.  The town of Naples was purchased back in 1887 by a group of Kentuckians.  One of the first things they did was to build a pier out into the Gulf of Mexico.

Naples garnered a reputation as a winter destination.  People would flock here to escape the northern cold.
